“There is a strong synergy between our market of book buyers, and Avant Card’s positioning in hubs for arts and culture.” Australian Publishers Association
As the flagship event for the Australian book industry, the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) showcase the talent and diversity of what is the 14th largest publishing industry in the world, generating $2 billion in annual revenue with more than 7,000 new titles published each year.
“Several of our members, including HarperCollins, have run successful campaigns with Avant Card. There is a strong synergy between our market of book buyers, and Avant Card’s positioning in hubs for arts and culture. The opportunity to have their award-winning book(s) featured in an Avant Card campaign is highly valued by publishers.”
In June 2016, 15,000 postcards celebrating the ABIA 2016 winner – Magda Szubanski’s Reckoning (Book of the Year 2016 and Biography of the Year 2016) were distributed across cafes and bars, arts and culture venues, universities, high schools and regional hot spots in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Canberra. The ABIA 2016 winner was also promoted via television, social media and in the press.
“In terms of a general sense about the Avant Card campaign, we were delighted with it. It’s hard to separate the impact of this particular promotion from the media Magda [Szubanski] did following her ABIA win, but the high visibility of the Avant Card campaign and its contribution to interest in and sales of the book is undeniable. We saw sales increase by 100% between April and June 2016, and the leap in June, following the ABIAs announcement towards the end of May, was remarkable.
Avant Card reaches the reading and voting public. For this reason we would consider using Avant Card in our current campaign – conveying the value and importance of copyright – with the general public in a way that is engaging in order to augment the word-of-mouth and social media aspects of the campaign.
Avant Card have been a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
