Postcard of the Year 10-11

Sydney Wildlifeworld

And the winner is… Sydney Wildlifeworld – ‘Bees Needs’. Named 2010-2011 Postcard of The Year at the gala event at the ArtHouse Hotel on Thursday 19th May. The awards night was a sensational event. With a performance by Paul Capsis and beats by DJ John Ferris, creative teams, Avant Card clients and staff rubbed shoulders and revelled in the celebration of creativity.

Out of the 12 finalists, Sydney Wildlifeworld took the number one spot to claim a trophy prize and $20,000 of advertising with Avant Card. The postcard is printed on a custom-made stock that is 100% recycled and embedded with seeds of the native flower Callistemon citrinus (Lemon-scented Bottlebrush). The postcard can be planted in soil and if cared for correctly, flowers will grow.

The creative and strategic stock choice spoke to their target market and drew in votes from the majority of judges. Sydney Wildlife World used the postcard medium to engage their audience and successfully communicate the message about bees becoming a “conservation champion” — while at the same time using a call to action to direct visitors to the Bees Needs exhibit.

Comment from the winner… “We’re extremely grateful for being chosen as Avant Card Postcard of the Year. Being recognised for being part of a global cause really made it that much more amazing”. Vera Vanthavong, Marketing Executive at Merlin Entertainments Group

Comment from the judge… “The postcard highlights the fact that there is a problem and at the same time becomes a small part of the solution. Can’t argue with that! The interactive nature of it will allow parents/teachers to pass the message onto their kids in a fun way…This is a really great example of utilizing the medium in such a way that it strengthens the actual idea. It encourages the target audience to interact with a postcard in a fun, educational, rewarding and relevant way. It delivers the message then it turns into a bunch of flowers!” Gerhard Myburgh, Creative Director, Campaign Palace
