Strangely Familiar paintings by Elise Hurst Opening 6 - 9pm May 20, Family Day Saturday May 22. RSVPs appreciated Exhibition runs May 20 - June 5, 2010 No-Vacancy Gallery 34-40 Jane Bell Lane, Melbourne 3000 www.elisehurst.com/exhibition www.no-vacancy.com.au Welcome to a strangely familiar vision of the 1920s - 1950s, in which the world is peopled by animals. Realistic portraits of lions and tigers in smoking jackets, a board-room carnivore and Art Deco femme fatales are some of the characters who come to life in beautiful and rich environments. With a background in fine art and illustration, Elise’s works are never parody but a sympathetic portrayal of characters who merge attributes of animals and humans. Elise will be installing a pared-back version of her studio and painting throughout the exhibition. Proudly sponsored by the Crittenden Estate
