High School Insight + Back to School Offer
Do you want to reach high school students as they head back to school in 2011? Avant Card is the right media channel for you. As the only advertiser in high schools across Australia, Avant Card is enjoyed and respected by this discerning target market as they start to create life-long brand preferences.
Now in its fourth year, Avant Card has been increasing our presence in the high school market with displays now present in 222 schools and the ability to reach over 214,000 students aged 11-17 nationwide. Our unique brand of advertising has won the respect of government, independent and private schools whose students now look to the displays for the latest relevant campaigns and complimentary curriculum cards.
Avant Card clients are benefiting from direct access to the teen market in an environment where they are open to learning and absorbing new messages. It is the perfect place to introduce a new brand, increase existing brand awareness or loyalty or communicate key information like event dates or new product information.
One such client to enjoy the benefits of this network is Flickerfest. Having worked with Avant Card for many years on numerous campaigns, Flickerfest opted to access teens via the high school network in 2010 with amazing results. The national multimedia campaign called for high school students to enter a short film competition, with Avant Card sponsoring a $250 cash prize. A huge 43.2% of the entries related directly back to the Avant Card pick-up. The strong derivation has prompted Flickerfest to come back again to tap into the active market via a distribution channel that produces results.
The success of client campaigns is largely due to the level of respect that both students and teachers have attached to the Avant Card brand. Respect has been earned by adhering to strong ethical content guidelines for all high school campaigns. All creatives must meet criteria to ensure that they are appropriate and relevant for students in the high school environment. In addition, Avant Card has developed a range of curriculum cards in line with high school course outlines, designed to excite and educate students. These fun cards balance out the advertising content, act as learning tools for students and can often be used as aides in the classroom by teachers.

The Festival used the postcard medium as a way of raising awareness of comedy workshops along with information on how to participate. The postcards carried the 2010 Class Clowns branding as well as information for both students and teachers. |
Target audience:Teenagers/secondary students in year 9 to 12.
Distribution details:National release of 33,000 postcards distributed throughout High Schools.
Client testimonial:
“Melbourne International Comedy Festival chose Avant Card’s High School network as one of the most strategic and effective ways to target the secondary schools market. Having this sort of access to secondary students and their teachers is a cost effective way of ensuring our key messages get into the hands of our target audiences. We have had anecdotal feedback that the cards were popular with the kids. As a device for carrying call to action messages, the postcard medium is ideal.
Avant Card’s High School network is a fantastic way to communicate with the secondary student/teenage market. Operating on arts budgets means we are constantly looking for cost effective ways to reach our markets and Avant Card offers us a value for money channel to reach our target market.”

HIGH SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS
University High School, Parkville, VIC
The Avant Card display stand is situated in the library to the side, in a spot that students can easily access. The librarian sometimes chooses particular cards and has them at the front desk to offer them as books get checked out.
Testimonial
“The students respond with enormous enthusiasm especially to the art cards and the cartoons! Some look for particular styles and particular information, as do I, and some of the teachers have particularly liked the science information and the research cards. The Essay Writing cards and philosophy cards have been used in lessons and other cards have been used for displays during Science Week. The art promotional cards are always a great success and often used by teachers. The following cards have been particularly special: Eugo Inside a Dog, Periodic Table of Elements, Essay Writing, Research Tips and the Heart Card - these have all been taken and used in classes. The Dewey System cards have been a great success in the library and used as a basis for research/skills and a ‘find your way’ in the library lesson! I think it is a great service that Avant Card is providing.”

“The Avant Card postcard stand has been well received by both staff and students.
Teaching staff are particularly keen on the curriculum cards, popular among staff are the study and research hints and those advertising new fiction. I am constantly being asked for the Periodic Table of Elements card. The Art cards are popular for book marks with the students. It is a great service and we really love having our stand in the library - it is a way of bringing the wider world into the student’s world.”

Testimonial
“The display stand empties quickly due to the overwhelming response. The arts and science faculties are particularly keen to get the cards for their areas. Science teachers collect as many cards as possible, especially the Periodic Table of Elements. At first I was hesitant at having the cards in the school as I felt that they would be scattered all over the school yard but, this has not been the case. Students look forward to the top-ups and the news of new cards spreads rapidly.”

St Clare’s College, Griffith, ACT
The Avant Card display stand is situated in the library.
Testimonial
“The students love the Avant Cards - many keep an eye on the stand to be the first to spot new cards so they can be sure to get them. They use them as bookmarks and glue them in their student diaries for decoration, and I have had some parents use them for absence notes. Teachers are interested in the more overtly educational cards such as the Periodic Table of Elements etc. The Curriculum Cards are also very popular. Students will use them as bookmarks or even glue them inside their schoolbooks/diary and teachers will refer students to them as a resource. As soon as new cards arrive students descend on the display to take their favourites.”

"Avant Card has enabled the State Library of Victoria to reach one of the most difficult of all target markets – secondary school children. It allows us to do this ethically and responsibly, and in return, we are able to offer schools and students our wonderfully diverse and extremely deep range of trusted information."Greg Honeyman, Manager of Marketing & Public Affairs

Butterfly Foundation
"The Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s largest charitable foundation supporting people with eating disorders and negative body image. Eating disorders usually have their onset in adolescence and therefore when we are sending out key messages we like to be able to target young people.
We recently created an Avant Card campaign for International No Diet Day, encouraging people to love and respect their body, regardless of their weight, shape or size. We were pleased to know that the campaign directly reached our target audience of young people and will definitely use the High Schools Network again."
Julie Thomson, General Manager
Butterfly Foundation
Sydney Conservatorium of Music
"The Sydney Conservatorium of Music has benefited greatly from our association with Avant Card, and in 2007 we reformatted our Concerts Calendar into an Avant Card Mini Mag. The diverse range of areas where the mini-mags were available ensured that the information went out to both traditional and new audiences. The great thing with the size is that it is easily tucked into a personal diary or organiser and increases the concert calendar’s life span from a few weeks to an entire year!
We currently have two Avant Card display stands in our building and the students are drawn to the fresh and ever changing cards promoting a diverse range of events and services."
